Sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology, the American Neurological Association, and the Child Neurology Society.
The “Creative Expression Award” (CEA) recognizes an outstanding poem, short story, or work of creative nonfiction that artistically expresses human values in the practice of neurology, including compassion for persons with neurological disorders and reflection by physicians involved in their care.
Open to AAN members who have published a poem, short story, essay, memoir, or personal history in Reflections: Neurology and the Humanities in the journal Neurology® between January and December of the year for which the award is being presented. In addition, submissions of poems, short stories or creative nonfiction specifically for consideration for the CEA will be accepted. Individuals who have been recipients of the AAN Award for Creative Expression of Human Values in Neurology within the past three years are ineligible.
The AAN CEA winner will receive $1,000. In addition, the recipient’s registration fee for the Annual Meeting will be waived.
The CEA winner will receive recognition at the Scientific Awards and the Awards Luncheon at the AAN Annual Meeting.
