Cafe Talk - Narratives in Neurology: Creative Expression to Promote Resilience and Prevent Burnout

Event Time: Saturday May 4, 2019 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm
ELA Type: Live Well
Topic(s): Experiential Learning Area
Director(s): Sneha Mantri MD
Description: Narrative medicine is a growing subfield of the medical humanities using literature and art to explore the lived experience of health and illness. In addition to helping patients cope with challenging diagnoses, narrative medicine encourages students, trainees, and clinicians to find meaning in our daily practice and is an antidote to the rising tide of burnout in the health professions. In this interactive session, participants will learn how narrative-inflected neurology can improve our personal well-being and our ability to care for our patients. We will finish with a mini-workshop to practice narrative medicine techniques.
Completion Message: Participants will become familiar with the core tenets of narrative medicine and will learn structured expressive writing techniques to help mitigate the potential burnout and moral injury of medical practice.
