Description: Healthcare costs  in the US now exceed $3.5T. The financial burden to all citizens is unsustainable, whether sourced through taxes, healthcare premiums, employers  or directly from patients.  It is critical that the healthcare delivery system drives to greater efficiency, with focus on prevention, early treatment and outcomes. The data required for this essential remodeling has placed enormous emphasis on clinical documentation, which now must include sufficient detail to coordinate distributed team based care models, allocate limited financial resources according to patient complexity, drive evidence based utilization, and assure focus on quality control and preventive medicine. Unfortunately, the burden of adding this level of detail in clinical notes is a direct cause of burnout. Therefore, more and more practices are turning to alternative clinic models that reduce provider strain and restore productivity.  One major trend is the increasing use of medical scribes to offset some of these burdens.   Could this work for you and your practice? How does one pay for this service? Where are the best scribes found? What is the quality of the documentation for clinical care? For billing? What’s the current evidence and experience with scribes?  What variations of the scribe concept have been implemented or envisioned? Come find out some answers to these questions during this dynamic debate at the Innovation Hub.
