Office Hours: Comparative Effectiveness Research in Neurology

Event Time: Wednesday April 25, 2018 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm
ELA Type: The Grand Experience - Research Corner
Topic(s): Research Methodology, Education, and History
Director(s): Lidia Maria Moura MD, FAAN
Description: The neurological population faces an increasing number of cases of chronic and co-morbid neurological conditions, such as epilepsy, stroke, and Alzheimer’s disease. Because this population with multiple comorbidities are commonly excluded from randomized controlled clinical trials, there are few rigorous studies to guide clinical practice. When individuals with more than one neurological problem are eligible for trials, they either rarely participate or frequently have poor adherence to therapy, thus limiting both generalizability and validity. This session will discuss the recent developments in causal inference analytic approaches and provide practical examples of the application of the principles of causal inference to observational data sets.
