Event Time: Monday April 23, 2018 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm
ELA Type: The Grand Experience - Navigating Your Career
Topic(s): Pain and Palliative Care
Director(s): Tara Cook MD
Description: The ACGME requires neurology residents to show competence in certain palliative care skills, such as communication. A key communication skill is discussing goals of care. Yet, many neurologists who teach residents have never received formal training in this skill. In this session, we present a structured framework that can be used for teaching neurology trainees. This framework, REMAP, bases the discussion on patient values and responding to emotion, thereby improving the quality of the physician-patient interaction. Following brief didactics, we will demonstrate how these frameworks may be applied in clinical practice.
