Education and Publications Station: Writing Better Papers by Sharpening Your Reviewing Skills

Event Time: Monday April 24, 2017 8:00 am to 9:00 am
Topic(s): General Neurology
Director(s): Bradford Worrall MD, MSc, FAAN
Description: When doing critical analyses of others' manuscripts, reviewers look at the items that indicate whether the science described is valid. When reviewing papers, scientists are asked to improve the manuscript by making helpful comments to authors. In doing so, they also gain an understanding that will improve the quality of their own studies and how they report them. Reviewers learn to recognize novelty, irreparable flaws, clarity of hypotheses put forward, currency of methodology and statistical designs, effective communication of data, and soundness of data interpretation. As a result, scientists learn how to approach their own work in the same way.
