Description: Complimentary refreshments will be served during this lecture. Poor or inadequate nutrition is the root cause of many common diseases and exacerbates the disease progression of many acute and chronic ailments.  Patients often request ways to treat common neurologic disorders with dietary modifications. Clinicians may not feel comfortable in their knowledge on how to counsel patients from a nutrition standpoint.  Learning more about the basics of nutrition benefits the caretaker as well as the patient.
Completion Message: At the end of the course, attendees will be able to assist physicians in learning about nutrition for their own health; describe the effects of nutrition on disease; present an overview of nutritional science including physiologic basis of whole foods plant based nutrition and the concept of superfoods; identify strategies to incorporate nutritional counseling into routine clinical practice; discuss the influence that dietary patterns have on the development of neurologic conditions such as neuropathy and migraines; and identify individualized dietary plans for patients with common neurologic diseases (i.e peripheral neuropathy and migraine).
