Live Well: Mastering the Art of Practice: Recapturing the Joy of Neurology: Your Organization and Health Care Policy

Event Time: Saturday April 22, 2017 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm
ELA Type:
Topic(s): General Neurology
Director(s): Neil Busis MD, FAAN
Description: It's paradoxical: the scientific basis of neurology is advancing at breathtaking speed, with new understanding of and diagnostic methods and treatments for devastating diseases, and policy makers are shifting to a health care system that rewards value not volume.  However, neurologist wellness and career satisfaction are declining. Due to a rapidly growing body of research we are starting to understand the primary drivers of burnout and satisfaction in physicians: workload, efficiency, control over work/autonomy/flexibility, work-life integration, finding meaning in work. Factors that influence these drivers are in four domains: at the individual, work unit, organization, and national levels. Faculty will explore physician wellness and satisfaction and present ways to mitigate the factors that negatively influence them. By mastering the art of practice, attendees will be able to recapture the joy of neurology that initially attracted them to our field. Dr. Busis will focus on your organization and health care policy.
