Topic(s): General Neurology
Director(s): Lisa Shulman MD, FAAN
Description: Brain health depends upon regular activity and exercise.  The benefits of a large range of activities-- from physical activity to cognitive training to social engagement, are supported by an ever-increasing body of evidence.  Evidence of benefits extends to many chronic neurologic disorders including stroke, dementia, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy and Parkinson disease.  New models of clinical practice are needed to integrate the management of activity and exercise into routine office visits.  Patient-centered care, electronic medical records and activity monitoring offer timely opportunities to integrate management of activity and exercise into routine clinical practice. Results from a recent pilot study will be presented.
