Description: This informative, interactive session focuses on the competencies required to build strong developmental relationships. The session emphasizes the factors required to successfully mentor physicians from different settings and at different stages of practice. The presenter will explore the distinctions between coaching and mentoring, provide a framework for building a solid mentoring relationship, and offer approaches for maximizing the mentor/protégé relationship. Participants are encouraged to bring their questions and dilemmas related to mentoring as there will be many opportunities for large and small group discussions during the session. The session is enhanced by short case studies that explore approaches to mentoring. Participants will also complete a short assessment that measures their mentoring aptitude.
