Event Time: Thursday April 27, 2017 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Topic(s): Leadership, Leadership University
Director(s): Heidi Schwarz MD, FAAN, Jennifer Molano MD, FAAN
Description: The issue of burnout is prevalent in medicine and neurology, with personal, professional and organizational implications. Leaders in neurology will be the cornerstone of addressing this issue and navigating efforts to mitigate burnout. In this four hour, interactive course, Dr. Ronald Epstein, a nationally-known leader on physician resilience, will explore how clinicians and leaders can understand their own inner landscapes better, how clinicians and leaders relate to an uncertain and dynamic healthcare environment, and what it will take for clinicians to experience greater wellbeing, effectiveness, and flourishing at work. A panel of current leaders at different career stages also will offer insights into their own strategies towards resiliency, and participants will also have the opportunity to discuss challenges they face and creative solutions for their own situation in small group breakout sessions. The goal is to empower neurologists in leadership positions to increase personal engagement within one’s organization, clinic, or institution.
Completion Message: Understand burnout in neurology at the individual, work-unit, and national levels. Discuss challenges in promoting resiliency at one's local organization, clinic, or institution. Identify strategies to promote improvements in the culture of one’s local organization, clinic, or institution.
