C135 - Neuromuscular Ultrasound Skills Workshop

Event Time: Tuesday April 25, 2017 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm
Topic(s): Neuromuscular and Clinical Neurophysiology (EMG)
Director(s): Craig Zaidman MD
Description: This skills workshop will introduce participants to the field of neuromuscular ultrasound (NMUS) and cover the basic principles of ultrasonography and current applications. NMUS techniques will be presented through both video and live demonstration sessions. Participants will also have the opportunity to gain limited hands-on experience with ultrasound systems under the guidance of a faculty member. Specific information will be presented on the role of NMUS in the diagnosis and management of entrapment neuropathies, and its use in guided procedures and in the diagnosis of muscular disorders.
Completion Message: Participants should be able to understand the basic principles of neuromuscular ultrasonography, including its advantages and limitations, and the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of entrapment neuropathies; become familiar with the techniques required to use ultrasound in the guidance of neuromuscular procedures, and the methods required to use muscle ultrasound; and learn to integrate electrodiagnostic and sonographic information through case presentations.
