Description: This program will cover state of the science knowledge about concussions. Speakers include experts from the US military and neurologists actively involved in the management of sports concussion. Topics include the evaluation of concussion, neurocognitive testing for sports and the military, evaluation of balance difficulties, general concussion management, systems of care for the concussion patient who has persistent symptoms, neuropathology of concussion, and ICD-9 coding for encounters. This program complements C142 Concussion in the Military and in Sports. This program is offered in partnership with the AAN Government Services Section and the AAN Sports Neurology Section.
Completion Message: Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to understand the approach to the evaluation of suspected concussion, what options there are for sideline/battlefield evaluation and neurocognitive testing, the role of neurocognitive testing pre-deployment or pre-sports season, management of concussion, and additional detailed knowledge of state of the science of concussion.
