Live Well: Mind over Matter: Meditation for the Practicing Neurologist

Event Time: Sunday April 23, 2017 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm
ELA Type:
Topic(s): General Neurology
Director(s): Sarah Mulukutla MD, MPH
Description: Meditation is a practice of self-reflective mental training.  Attention, concentration, and mindfulness are used to direct activity of the mind. Almost immediately, heart and respiratory rate decrease, and changes in EEG activity can be seen.  In 6-8 weeks, daily meditation induces neuroplastic changes detectable on fMRI, and alters immune and epigenetic response.  Can mental training really be this potent? Join us in exploring the innate connection between meditation and the human nervous system, and how this knowledge and practice can help us neurologists. The session will include a 20 minute guided meditation.
